Ontological Infinitism

Definitions

  • Something = The existence of at least one thing.
  • Nothing = The state of absolute nothingness.
  • Infinite = The property of being ontologically unbounded; without existential boundary.

The Argument

Premise 1: Something exists.

Premise 2: Nothing, being the state of absolute nothingness, has no properties, capacities, or potential.

Premise 3: That which has no properties, capacities, or potential cannot actualize or produce anything.

Conclusion 1: Therefore, Nothing cannot produce Something.

Premise 4: If Nothing cannot produce Something, and Something exists, then Nothing has never obtained.

Conclusion 2: Therefore, Nothing has never obtained.

Premise 5: If Nothing has never obtained, then there is no existential boundary at which Something gives way to Nothing.

Conclusion 3: Therefore, Something is ontologically Infinite.

The Worldview

From these conclusions, I presently adopt the metaphysical position of Ontological Infinitism:

Ontological Infinitism: The metaphysical position that Something, understood as the existence of at least one thing, is ontologically unbounded. Nothing, understood as the state of absolute nothingness, has never obtained and cannot obtain; therefore existence has no existential boundary.

My Current Cosmological Interpretation

My current interpretation of Ontological Infinitism is that spacetime itself is ontologically unbounded. I regard this as the simplest model consistent with the argument above, while remaining open to revision should future evidence demonstrate a more fundamental form of Something.

  1. Ontology: Something is ontologically unbounded.
  2. Metaphysics: This is Ontological Infinitism.
  3. Cosmology: My present interpretation is that spacetime shares this unboundedness.
  4. Physics: Scientific models describe the behavior and structure of that reality.

Changes in cosmology or physics would not automatically undermine the ontological argument itself, because the argument is about the impossibility of Nothing, not about any particular physical model of the universe.

Truth Idol — Live on TikTok

Truth Idol isn’t only a reference site. It’s also a live space on TikTok where the real conversations unfold — the ones that don’t fit neatly into arguments or definitions. The TikTok account focuses on the same core themes explored here: philosophy theology and theisms nationalism divination skepticism and clarity how humans make meaning The Live Show exists for anyone who wants to think openly, question honestly, or explore ideas without dogma. Some people join to challenge me. Some to learn. Some out of curiosity. All of those are welcome energies. The short-form videos on the account use voice-over and symbolic imagery to explore the questions behind the questions — the same approach used throughout Truth Idol. If these topics move something in you, the TikTok space is where the conversation breathes. @truthidol Why the Live Show Exists Truth Idol is not about persuasion. It’s about clarity, structure, and honest inquiry. But some ideas require voices, not just pages. Some que...

What Truth Idol Is

Truth Idol exists to give people clarity when they’re thinking about theistic claims, arguments, and assumptions. The internet is full of emotion, debate, and persuasion. This site is not for any of that. Truth Idol is a reference tool. It focuses on structure, definition, and the questions behind the questions. The pages on this site do a few simple things: define key terms used in theism, atheism, and apologetics outline the logic of common arguments identify the pivot points where confusion usually happens separate what is known from what is assumed There is no agenda here beyond clarity. There is no attempt to convert, deconvert, prove, or disprove anything. Truth Idol assumes only this: A conversation cannot be productive unless the words being used have meaning. This site will grow over time as more pages, terms, and structures are added. For now, you can explore the foundational concepts using the links in the menu.
